First generation sheep farmers…we all start somewhere…
About Us
Larry and Jami began raising sheep in 2002 on their farm outside of Ellensburg, Washington in Kittitas County. Although it is a beautiful area surrounded by hills and mountains, it is a fairly harsh environment for livestock with low precipitation and ample wind. It does boast the best sunrises and sunsets with a big sky.
The sheep breeds raised are Texel and Coopworth. They do well here and are tough enough and great mothering sheep. These are moderate sized sheep that are easy to handle. Learn more about the sheep on the flock page.
The horses and sheep flock of ~25 ewes are sustained on hay grown on the farm. A bit of alfalfa is purchased from a local farm for lambing time as a nutritional boost.
Larry does the hay growing, harvesting and storing. And a lot of the feeding too.
Jami spends much of her time working with the wool and planning flock genetics. She is also a certified wool classer and helps flocks get the best prices for their wool by separating their clips into quality categories. Jami attends multiple fiber festivals with her woolen wares. She is an avid fiber artist and keeps busy either prepping fleeces for sale or creating her own designs from wool and also feeds a lot of cookies to the sheep. You can check out her shop on this website to get a glimpse into her world. Part of the farm family are the border collies, Ben and Beau, aka the sheep movers, and Meg, the livestock guardian goddess.
