Wool Sales

Shearing happens a couple of times per year on the farm. We always have fleeces available but the most popular sell out quickly, like “blue” Coopworth. We have lots of processed wool for sale as well from these lovely fleeces in roving, yarns and batts. We have won many awards at regional wool shows, so experts agree that the sheep know what they are doing!

Just back from the mill is a batch of 4 ounce bumps of BFL roving! Bluefaced Leicester is a finewool in the longwool category of breeds. Micron counts can be as low as 18 and this batch, from some ewes I sold to a producer in California, is no exception – very fine, next-to-the-skin soft and very suitable for anything from spinning into sock yarn or neck scarves (like the Sophie scarf would be perfect, if you know about that pattern by PetiteKnits), gloves, hats, sweaters, etc. This is the last batch of BFL I will have to offer. Since I chose to leave this white, dyeing would be best accomplished after it is spun into your preferred weight yarn. It also wet felts very well. This was processed by Rocky Roo-Bee Ranch and Fiber Mill in Ellensburg, WA and they did a great job on it. Price is $15 for a 4-ounce bump discounted to $50 per pound if purchasing 4 bumps or more. US Shipping is additional.

CCS 2205 – Opal – Coopworth Ewe fleece

CCS2205 is Opal, who is Iris’ sister. They were two of a set of a triplets born from an AI NZ embryo transfer ewe. Their fleeces have slightly different character from my Coops bred for generations in the US (all originate from NZ however where the breed was established). This fleece was sheared in 2023 and has been stored in my wool shed waiting for me to get to processing it and it’s time someone else enjoys it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It is from Opal’s younger days so has a tighter crimp to it than more recent shearings. She wore a coat so it is extremely clean as far as VM goes. It needs a good scour to remove the lanolin and dirt and should wash nicely. There may be a tinge of off-white left once washed. It is deeply discounted$10/lb = $60. At 6 lbs and 3 inch plus staple length and scant VM, this will be a nice one to process!
